INTRODUCTION

           

      Objectives                                                                                                                                                                                                   

                                                                                                                                                                                    
Our principal objectives are to cultivate and support rifle and pistol target shooting in Ayrshire County and foster friendly relations     
between affiliated clubs and members.                                                                                                                                                     
A further objective is to support affiliated clubs representing or specialising in other forms of target shooting.                                      

 

           General                                                                                                                                                                                                                        

          The Ayrshire County silverware, is awarded to affiliated members producing the best scores within the Ayrshire County                                competitions either as individuals or as team members.                                                                                                                          
The majority of competitions are open to all members of the affiliated clubs but, from long established tradition, one competition      
is reserved for ladies only.                                                                                                                                                                          
           Three competitions, namely the County Prone Rifle Championship, the County Black Powder Championship and the the County                               Sporting Rifle Championship are open to all interested shooters when any non-affiliated club member will be awarded a prize of                     considered appropriateness for the competition should they win or achieve a position of gaining an award.                                           
          Whenever numbers permit the competitions will be divided into divisions to extend the range of prizes and encourage those                        climbing through the scoring levels.                                                                                                                                                          
Handicap competitions are  also used to permit the less able shooter to compete directly with the more able and, as in other            
           sports, the lower the handicap the greater the difficulty in holding a top position.                                                                                                  
           This is taken one step further with the McCrae handicapped events within which a positive advantage is given to improving                         
competitors.                                                                                                                                                                                              

               
          Affiliated Clubs
               
             There are currently four Ayrshire based target shooting clubs affiliated to the ATSA.
                                                                   
             The non-affiliated shooting clubs generally have a main interest in full-bore rifle and/or shotgun shooting which traditionally            
             have not been part of the interests of the affiliated clubs.                                                                                                                     

The affiliated clubs are: 

Ardeer Rifle and Pistol Club        

Dundonald Rifle and Pistol Club  

   Glengarnock Rifle and Pistol Club  

Stewarton and District Rifle Club
